The Practical

Seeking some winter sun we booked a 1-week package holiday with Easyjet Holidays staying at Next by Savoy in Funchal. The flight from Gatwick was an early morning start, so rather than get up very early and drive to the airport we booked a night in the Premier Inn North Terminal (not to be confused with the Premier Inn A23 at the airport). Parking at the Long Term carpark north, we took the shuttle bus to the terminal and had a short walk to the hotel.

The archipeligo of Madeira is volcanic, is 35 miles long and 13 miles wide. It lies 275 miles north of Tenerife and 600 miles southwest of Lisbon. The capital Funchal has a deep water harbour and is visited by numerous cruise ships on a daily basis.

Date Flight Details
Saturday 16th November EZY 8519 ETD Gatwick 07-10 hrs
ETA Madeira 11-10 hrs
Saturday 23rd November EZY 8520 ETD Madeira 11-45 hrs
ETA Gatwick 15-30 hrs

The flights in both directions were just over 3 hours, shorter than schedule.
